Capital Group says opinions expressed in investor Sponer’s email are his own
Opinions expressed by analysts of Capital Group reflect their own convictions of where to invest, the US investment fund said in a press release following the reactions caused by an email allegedly sent to banks by one of its analysts.
Earlier, main opposition party Syriza’s MP Giorgos Stathakis said the email published in electronic media on the climate during the meetings he had with investors in London “has nothing whatsoever to do with reality.”
The email is said to have been sent by Joerg Sponer, a top analyst of Capital Group. In it he described Syriza’s economic programme as being “worse than Communism” and a “joke”.
“It’s our policy not to comment on any personal and private communication of our investors. Mr Sponer is an analyst and one of about 300 investors working for Capital Group. In Capital, all investors bear the responsibility of their decisions of where to invest, which are based on their strong convictions,” the fund said in a press release.
“There’s no universal view for any company, market, region or country. Capital Group does not have an official position for the domestic political situation of Greece or any other country,” it added.
